Brixton Capital secures the viral coffee and matcha café’s first San Diego location
Del Mar Plaza is welcoming one of the most talked-about names in coffee and matcha. Brixton Capital, the vertically integrated owner and operator behind Del Mar Plaza, has signed a lease with La La Land Café to occupy the property’s iconic mezzanine terrace and café space — bringing the brand’s first San Diego location to the seaside shopping destination.
An Instagrammable Location
La La Land will take over the highly visible southwest corner of the Plaza’s mezzanine, a spot known for its panoramic Pacific Ocean views. Combine that backdrop with Del Mar Plaza’s elevated architecture and La La Land’s signature white-and-yellow branding, drinks and merchandise, and the pairing is shaping up to be one of the most photographed corners in Del Mar.
La La Land has built a loyal, fast-growing following online, with a brand mission centered on bringing more warmth and kindness into the spaces it occupies — a natural fit for a plaza built around community and connection.
“La La Land is incredibly successful at creating shared spaces that encourage human connections, and that’s exactly our guiding light for Del Mar Plaza, too,” said Rob Taylor, Brixton Capital’s President and Chief Investment Officer. “We continue to attract fresh, exciting brands at the Plaza to best serve the community and stay at the leading edge of retail placemaking.”
The Deal
La La Land will occupy 1,168 square feet of interior space, with additional seating and queuing space extending onto the terrace deck. Construction start and grand opening dates have not yet been determined. The space was formerly home to Pacifica Breeze Café.
“We’re proud to be first-to-market attracting a dynamic brand that has grown to over 30 locations since its founding in 2019,” said Marc Brutten, Brixton Capital’s Founder and Chairman. “We expect the grand opening will be very well attended, and that La La Land Café at Del Mar Plaza will remain a very popular social destination.”
La La Land’s choice of Del Mar Plaza for its first San Diego location underscores the momentum behind the property’s ongoing transformation.
Victoria Pappas, Brittney Austin and Linda Rubiola of SHOP Companies represented La La Land in the lease transaction, while Brixton Capital represented itself with support from Andrew Shemirani and Ashley Tiefel of Urban Property Group. Lease terms were not disclosed.
Del Mar Plaza is located at 1555 Camino Del Mar in the upscale, seaside city of Del Mar, and is part of Brixton Capital’s fast-growing national retail portfolio.
