In July Del Mar Plaza snipped the ribbon on a handful of handpicked new businesses, with high hopes to elevate the overall Del Mar village experience.
On July 24, representatives from the City of Del Mar and the Del Mar Village Association turned up for a ribbon-cutting for the new Cottage Restaurant, a breakfast and brunch specialist out of La Jolla. Guests lined the sidewalk and crowded inside for a sneak peak and complimentary bites.
Located right on the Camino Del Mar street frontage, The Cottage features beachy board and batten siding and a charming white picket fence dotted with flowers. Accordion doors open up the front of the restaurant, allowing guests to enjoy ocean breezes and village views.
A La Jolla fixture since 1992, Cottage owners Jason Peaslee and Bernardo Kanarek expanded into Encinitas last year before opening this latest Del Mar outpost.
The menu includes scones and lemon ricotta pancakes, brioche french toast and egg dishes like the wild-caught shrimp omelet, scrambles, Benedicts and chilaquiles. Guests can greet the morning with cappuccinos and spiced lavender mochas made with house-roasted coffee or sip on organic and cold-pressed juices, mimosas and Bloody Marys.
On the street level, Del Mar Plaza also welcomed the new SkinSpirit medical spa. Taking over the former Banana Republic space is a luxe seven-room spa offering treatments such as facials and peels, injectables, body contouring, laser hair removal and micro-needling.
SkinSpirit is in 15 states across the country with 17 locations in California—Del Mar is the first in San Diego County.
Up top on the expanded ocean view deck, a ribbon cutting was also held for the new Yoga Barre fitness studio. The second location for the Temecula-based yoga studio replaced the former New Children’s Museum’s Art + Play Space.
Class offerings at Yoga Barre include heated and non-heated yoga sessions and music-driven barre classes that incorporate weights, resistance bands, balls and more.
Del Mar Plaza hopes to open Valley Farm Market, a specialty grocer neighboring The Cottage, later this year.
