How to Build a Greener Community in 5 Steps

Spring is a time for new growth, new changes, and most importantly new habits to help make our community a little greener. We should care and learn about our home for more than just one day of the year, and that’s why at Del Mar Plaza, we celebrate not only #EarthDay, but Earth Month!

There’s no better time to work towards building a greener community than during Earth Month! Read on for 5 simple steps you can take to help protect and preserve the Del Mar community and build a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Beachbound? Look for Litter!

Our stunning ocean views serve as a daily reminder of the beauty Earth has to offer–and inspire us to take action! The next time you’re beachbound, pack a trash bag and look for litter left on the coastline. Picking up litter keeps our beaches looking beautiful and protects our aquatic wildlife from the harmful effects of pollution!

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

The 3 ‘R’s you’ve probably heard throughout your life: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is an important part of a sustainable lifestyle as they help cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. And really, it’s quite simple:

Reduce the amount of waste you produce by only buying what you need, choosing products with less packaging, or buying in bulk.

Reuse items as much as you can before replacing them! A few ideas include bringing a reusable water bottle from home instead of buying a new one or ditching plastic and using reusable, environmentally-friendly bags instead.

Recycle items wherever possible! Be sure to separate items that can be recycled when decluttering your home. When you’re on the go, keep an eye out for recycling bins wherever you are! At DMP, you can find recycling receptacles on the street level.

Reduce Your Transporation Footprint

Once known as just recreational activities, biking and walking are now known as great options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion. Better yet, walking and biking not only make individuals healthier but entire communities healthier and more sustainable. And with accessible bike lanes and sidewalks throughout our coastal community, it’s truly a breeze to get around town. The next time you’re headed to DMP, try using these clean transportation methods. We’ve made it easy to do with our bike parking located on the street level!

Ride Share

Using rideshare apps or carpooling from one place to another is not only a great way to save on gas, but has a major environmental benefit. Significantly reduce the impact of your trip and order a car with friends! Carpooling or ridesharing reduces carbon emissions, traffic congestion, and air pollution, all of which ultimately help Del Mar stay beautiful!

Electrify your Ride

It’s no secret Electric vehicles reduce your carbon footprint. EVs offer a low-carbon alternative to gas-powered vehicles. Look for DMP’s designated EV parking the next time you visit!

Remember, when we come together for a cause, each of our individual efforts can lead to real, positive change!
