5 Fun Ways to Spend Summer with Your Kids

Summer 2020 is already shaping up to look a lot different than what we’re used to here in Del Mar. The shops at the Plaza are slowly beginning to reopen (many of which are offering curbside pickup) and our restaurants are setting their tables again, but this time of year, we’re usually rocking out to Seaside Sessions and planning our weekends around artisan markets and shopping events on the Ocean View Deck. While we’re not planning community events for any time soon, that doesn’t mean your family still can’t have a fabulous summer!

Here are five creative ways to spend a safe, socially-distanced, and responsible summer with some help from a few of our favorite places at Del Mar Plaza.

Hit the Beach

The quintessential summer activity in Del Mar is hitting the beach—and thankfully, you can frolic in the sand and swim in the waves without getting too close to others. Before you go, freshen up your beach accessories with some fun beach towels from Seabiscuit Del Mar; their collection of Gray Malin towels are chic enough for adults, and colorful enough for your kids to love too.

Go for a Hike

Another way to get in some sunshine with minimal social interaction is by taking a hike. Make it a special event by freshening up your wardrobe with something new from Lorna Jane. The brand has a cool and sporty Tweens collection, so you can match your daughter as you hit the hills together.

Plan a Picnic

Does your kitchen need a break? Order takeout from one of our award-winning restaurants, like Il Fornaio, Pacifica Del Mar, Shimbashi Izakaya, or Del Mar Rendezvous, grab a blanket, and take your kids to the park, beach, or even your own backyard and have a fun family picnic!

Workout at Home

If your kids miss their sports teams and running around with friends, then help them get their energy out with a fun workout at home. Sign up for Kim Kelly Fit’s new virtual studio and choose a workout your whole family can get into together.

Make Dinner Together

What’s your family’s favorite summer dish? Round up the kids and put together a summer-themed dinner—a summer salad, grilled chicken and summer veggies, and fruity popsicle or blueberry pie—to ring in the season. Urban Girl Accessories has a collection of brightly-colored oven mitts to ensure no little fingers get burnt.
